How the Strata9 Android App Puts the Wells Around You on Your Phone

A practical guide to the Strata9 Android app on Google Play: find the wells of record around you, read their production history, check disposal wells and browse listings.

Strata9 Inc. of Houston, Texas released Strata9 for Android on Google Play on October 21, 2026. This guide walks through what the app does once it is on your phone, from the first screen to the listings, so you can decide whether it belongs in your pocket.

Strata9 maps more than five million oil and gas wells of record across 33 U.S. states, six Canadian provinces and territories, and the Gulf of America. The Strata9 site describes itself as free to explore, and a free account lets you save wells and contact brokers.

Start with the ground you are standing on

The app opens on your location. In the words of its Google Play listing, "Open the app and it lands where you are. Every well of record around you is on the map: producing, shut in, plugged, permitted."

Read a well's record

Tap any well to open its card, the same record you can open on the Strata9 map. The listing says a tap brings up "the record, the production history, the depth, and a Strata9 estimate for active wells." According to the Strata9 site, production is shown as the state reports it, month by month, and records are shown as the state filed them. The site also advises checking the official source before acting on a number.

Search the way you already work

The app lets you "Search by county, town, operator, lease or API number."

Switch to the Water map

The same map also covers disposal and injection wells. According to the listing, "Switch to Water and the same map shows the disposal and injection wells, colored by how full each one is, with permitted capacity, reported injection and the injection interval on the card."

Browse listings in Market

Market is where the Strata9 marketplace lives on your phone. The listing says it "shows what is listed where you are looking, for sale, for lease and disposal capacity, with the broker or company behind each listing." Listings are created on strata9.exchange, and the app is where buyers find them. On Strata9, owners do not list directly. A broker represents the interest and places the listing, and according to the site every listing is reviewed before it goes public.

Save wells and pick up on your desktop

Wells you care about do not have to be found twice. "Save wells to your account and they are there on the desktop too," the listing says. The site describes a free Scout account that saves wells and listings so you can pick up where you left off on any device. The full Strata9 map is also open in a browser.

Who it is for

The listing describes Strata9 as "the subsurface exchange for mineral owners, landmen, operators and brokers."
